Ball joint on ‘65 International. Can’t remove and want to make sure we’re looking at the right thing. Tips for removal? Friend worried about fucking up the box.

Your local parts store should have a pitman arm puller in their loaner tool program. You can use an impact on higher-quality pullers, but cheaper ones are likely to break if the parts are on super-tight. S o what I like to do is, use the puller to put tension on the parts, then tap the arm with a hammer to shock it loose. Heating up the arm with a torch can help too.

That’s a pitman arm, they make a tool for it. They’re on there very very tight, and are frightening when they come loose (I’ve shot handguns quieter than the pitman arm coming off my rx7 was). Do not pry against the box.
